Hunter Challenges the Clans of the Lok'groton to a Contest of Hide and Rescue

OOC Time: Saturday, August 13, 2005 12:15 pm PDT/3:15 pm EDT etc.

Overview:
This is a new type of challenge we dreamed up to be fun and allow full participation by clans of any size. It is essentially the opposite of a rescue challenge. The winning clan is the one who does the best job at hiding their own fallen from combined rescue attempts of the other clans.

You take one of your clanmates and have him or her fall in some distant, challenging and/or obscure location on the main island. Then everyone is let loose to attempt to find and revive all the hidden fallen. The winner is the clan whose fallen is revived last. All clans are invited. Acceptance of this challenge in advance is encouraged but not required. Contact rieger@faircraft.com to accept or seek more information.

Prizes:
Normal Dun'ilsar scoring applies. In addition, Hunter will be giving out cash prizes to the individuals who are the designated fallen for the top 3 clans (1000c/500c/250c for first/second/third place; we'll pool the money in case of ties and divide it evenly.)

Rules:

The contest is divided into two phases, the Hiding phase and the Seeking phase.

The Hiding Phase.

This phase will last exactly 15 (OOC) minutes. All participants must start at the assembly area and return to the assembly area before the end of the phase. During the phase each team must leave one of their members fallen somewhere. At the end of the Hiding phase each clan announces who their designated fallen is.

Rules and Restrictions for the Hiding Phase:

1. Fairplay, no spying: clans will not intentionally spy on other clans during the hiding phase. Therefore, each clan should stick together as a team. Participants will NOT spirit link to members of other clans during the Hiding phase, and must stop doing so on request. Mystics will not attempt to locate people during this phase.

2. How to fall: part of a clan's challenge is to have their fallen be difficult to raise. Therefore, it is acceptable and potentially advantageous to "rough up" the victim after they fall. Therefore anything goes. However see the Seeking Phase rules about why you don't want to take this to an extreme.

3. Boundaries: in the interest of practicality, the challenge will be resticted to the main island plus the cloud. Also certain areas are out of bounds for this challenge. Fallen cannot be left in these areas or in areas that can only be reached by going out of bounds. The list of out-of-boards areas consists of:

  1. All areas past Wisher's Gate (you know what this means even if you tend to get their via other avenues);
  2. Any area that is closed to particular professions, races, members, rank levels, etc. Examples include: Fighter/Healer/Mystic/etc. temples; Bick's and Puck's; the women's hut. (Note: most areas that require a mystic or PF to open are in-bounds--as long as anyone is able to follow. Also, the cloud is in-bounds because, technically, anyone can get there.);
  3. Private rooms (e.g., in houses and the Purple Tor).

The Seeking Phase.

This phase will last 75 minutes or until the last designated fallen has been raised--whichever comes first. Everyone participating must be in the assembly area (or the library) at the start of the phase. During this phase, participants seek out the fallen using any means at their disposal and revive them. This phase is essentially a free-for-all with everyone trying to revive other fallen (while trying to keep the location of their own clan's fallen secret). The scoring occurs during this phase. As each clan's designated fallen is revived, that clan's scoring position is set. The first fallen raised earns last place, and so on. If at the end of the Seeking Phase more than one clan has not had their fallen revived, they are considered tied for first place.

Rules and Restrictions for the Seeking Phase:

1. Fair play: the Seeking phase is about rescuing, not about impeding the efforts of people attempting to rescue your designated fallen. Therefore, participants will not physically interfere with rescues (e.g., chaining fallen away, blocking passages, etc.) during this phase.

2. What determines whether a designated fallen has been revived? For scoring purposes as soon as the fallen is healed to standing, he or she is considered revived, period. Having said that, normal rescue ettiquette applies. Don't leave some fallen behind just because he was raised momentarily and fell again. However if the person can't safely be raised again with the current group, it's fair to come back later rather than waiting for help.

3. What about people who are too fallen? If the person can't be healed where he or she is, chain him to town or some other location where healers can be assembled. The person is not considered revived until raised, with one exception: If a fallen is brought town and determined by any healer to be "nearing death" or "perilously near death" then the person is considered to have been revived 10 minutes prior to that determination. The fallen will be left in town until after the challenge when healers can be assembled to raise him. In other words, if during the Hiding phase the hiding clan went overboard making the person fallen, then there is a penalty (the 10 minutes).

4. How to locate the fallen: Mystics and spirit link information (e.g. "so and so is fallen to a Jade Noid.") is fair game and can be shared as widely as wished.

5. Working together: Do clans have to stick together or work independently during the Seeking phase. Not at all. We anticipate widespread cooperation between clans during this phase.

6. Accidental rescues. What if someone not in the competition heals a designated fallen? We will try to make sure everyone in the lands knows what's going on to prevent this. If you are the fallen and someone tries to heal you, ask them not to. If you are raised anyway, you are counted as having been revived.

7. Don't touch your own fallen. Clans are not allowed to touch, move, or otherwise phyically interact with their designated fallen during the Seeking phase until he or she is revived. The only exception would be chaining the person directly to town or (for some reason) healing the person.

8. If, during this phase, a designated fallen leaves the lands or is teleported to an out of bounds location (e.g., OV), he or she is considered "revived" at that moment.

Other Rules/Administration:

1. The designated fallens must spirit link to the judge before the start of the Seeking phase and stay linked until revived. (That's how we'll know when you're raised, of course.)

2. Clans who break the rules will be given a last place ranking (1 point), moving other clans up a notch.

3. A clan CAN participate with only one member. That person will be the team's designated fallen. This is the only case where a clan needs to notify the judge of who the fallen will be in advance.

4. The judge will keep the official list of who is still fallen and make that information available throughout the contest.

5. If we determine that any of these rules need to be changed or clarified, we reserve the right to do so, making our best efforts to get the word out before the start of the contest.

6. We welcome volunteers to be judges for this contest, preferably fine, upstanding clanless folks of course. Contact rieger@faircraft.com to volunteer.

7. We will start the hiding phase at 15 minutes past the hour (please arrive 10-15 minutes early) and end it promptly at the :30 minute mark. It will likely take 10-15 minutes to make sure we have the complete list of fallen and that all are sharing with the judge. Then the seeking phase will commence for up to 75 minutes. This means we'll be wrapping up at around 2pm Pacific/5pm Eastern. Make sure that your designated fallen can stick around that long.
